Niamh Honey at Node Cowork

Niamh Honey - Founder & Director

Niamh Honey is a registered osteopath running her own clinic within TownSq’s Barnstaple coworking space Node, specialising in women’s pelvic health.

Niamh Honey Osteopathy was founded after she moved back to her native North Devon from Bristol after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Niamh has been an osteopath for 12 years and had been working in a Bristol-based practice before the relocation. Upon returning, she fell back in love with the area and decided she wanted to start her own practice and deliver her services to women across North Devon.

Niamh treats patients of all ages but mostly sees female clients. She provides specialist treatment for pelvic health in women which helps patients to manage a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

Collaboration as a solo entrepreneur

Niamh’s dad was already very aware of Node and suggested that she get in touch to enquire about a potential space within the site where she could set up her new clinic.

Through discovering Node, Niamh was able to enrol in the Startup Club business support programme for new and developing small businesses, gaining expert insights and guidance on each stage of the business startup process. She went on to rent out an office on Node’s ground floor where she has since based her thriving clinic.

Niamh said: “As a first-time business owner, Startup Club gave me a huge boost in those early stages. I gained a lot of confidence just by having my hand held through certain parts of the experience and filling in all of the gaps in my knowledge when it comes to enterprise.

“Node’s robust support network is one of the major reasons I’ve gone on to stay in the space and seen significant growth in my business and customer base.”

From strength to strength

Niamh Honey Osteopathy has grown exponentially since joining Node.

Niamh said: “It’s fantastic to see the business performing well on paper, but what makes me proudest is hearing how much my work has helped people. It’s also very humbling when new patients come and tell me that I’ve been highly recommended by my existing patients - it’s a sure sign that I’m doing something right!”

Being a member at the hub has also supported Niamh to further develop her skills and knowledge. Having previously studied and completed a two year women’s health diploma, Niamh had the opportunity to build on this in 2023 by completing part of her second diploma in women’s health. She found that working at Node allowed her the flexibility to balance her studies with running her practice, utilising the coworking space to complete her learning and connecting with staff and other members to gain encouragement and support.

Being a busy solo business owner - and acting as both clinician and administrator - Niamh’s biggest challenge in her business is that she is her own biggest bottleneck, and finds that finding the time to write notes and manage bookings can be difficult whilst also providing the best clinical service possible.

However, Niamh says: “In many ways, this challenge is in fact one of my greatest strengths. As a solo entrepreneur, I have total freedom to experiment with appointment timings and daily scheduling to find the best ways to optimise how I run my clinic whilst preventing admin and notetaking from slipping through the cracks.

“Running my own business has surpassed every expectation I had, and I’m looking forward to continuing on my growth journey. I have lots of exciting ideas for the practice and I feel that being within the Node community is the perfect place to make them a reality.”
