Shared Prosperity Fund Supports Over 500 Businesses in Caerphilly

Caerphilly County Council at TownSq’s Expo at Llanciach Fawr

Over the past year, our SPF projects in Caerphilly have surpassed expectations, delivering support for businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the county. Through a combination of activities, we have helped over 500 businesses and individuals looking to start and grow their enterprises.

A Fresh Approach to Business Support
More than just workshops, we took a fresh approach to supporting the local business community, shaking up the usual offerings. In addition to our flagship Startup Club and accelerator programmes, we provided a range of resources to help businesses at every stage of their journey. We also hosted several social events, including a Summer Social at Ffos Market, where over 100 businesses and entrepreneurs had the chance to network in an informal, community-driven setting over games, great food, and drinks. This social aspect added depth to our approach, encouraging collaboration and fostering relationships that have already translated into new jobs and business creation.

Results and Impact
Our projects in the region have delivered exceptional outcomes, surpassing targets in several key areas, including the creation of 17 new businesses.

Additionally, we provided 110 hours of personalised one-to-one support. After a thorough diagnostic, businesses were provided with tailored support to help them start their ventures, remove unnecessary barriers to growth, and achieve their version of success. Our accelerator programmes played a pivotal role in helping businesses scale, offering entrepreneurs access to industry experts who provided invaluable mentorship and insight.

Engaging the Local Business Community
One of the standout achievements of our project was the engagement of over 300 businesses, which participated in networking events and workshops that inspired innovation and creativity. These events not only connected local businesses but also provided them with practical tools to take their ideas to market.

Kevin Mansell-Abell, Commercial Director at TownSq

Kevin Mansell-Abell, reflecting on the success of our projects, said,

“This SPF-funded project has connected and engaged businesses from across the country, with over 500 taking part in TownSq programmes themselves. Through workshops, grant funding, networking events, and social initiatives, we have exceeded expectations in building a thriving business ecosystem.”

Kelly Whitefoot, who has delivered many of the events for the projects, highlighted the measurable impact of the initiatives:

“These projects have delivered exceptional outcomes, from exceeding targets on business creation to supporting entrepreneurs with tailored mentorship and resources. Helping over 500 businesses and individuals across the region has not only strengthened the local economy but also built a robust network of thriving enterprises that continue to grow and collaborate.”

Looking Ahead to Continued Growth
Our projects are a testament to what can be achieved when local businesses are brought together and supported with the right tools and opportunities to grow. As we continue to build on the successes of the past year, we remain committed to delivering impactful results that help businesses of all sizes succeed.
