Fostering Cardiff’s Creativity: The Sustainable Studio

The Sustainable Studio

Through accessible short courses in fashion and design, workshops, and tailored programming, they nurture young talent while providing real-world insight into the creative industries—covering everything from fashion shows and points of sale to self-promotion, personal development, and entrepreneurial skills.

The studio is a true community space. It houses independent makers, small businesses, and creative start-ups, offering shared workspaces, collaborative zones, and resources that support artistic growth. Members explore everything from upcycling and natural fabric dyeing to sustainable fashion, though a focus on sustainability is not required. The studio fosters innovation, learning, and experimentation, providing a safe and inspiring environment for all forms of creative expression.

Sustainability is central to everything Sarah and Julia do. Their slow fashion brand, Dati Clothing, models sustainable garment construction and collaborative projects with local groups such as Welsh Ballroom. Every operational decision is made with environmental impact in mind, ensuring the space encourages eco-conscious practices alongside creativity.

Within the studio, The Canopi functions as a dynamic creative hub. By day, it serves as a café, gallery, and workshop space; by night, it transforms into an intimate venue for music, spoken word, and art pop-ups. As part of The Sustainable Studio, The Canopi amplifies opportunities for connection, learning, and showcasing Cardiff’s incredible talent, making the studio a true heart of the city’s creative community.
